Basement Cleanouts in Middletown and Smyrna: Three Basements, One Week

Basements fill up quietly. Nobody decides to fill one. Things go down the stairs over twenty years, and one day you need the space back, or you are selling, or the house has changed hands and it all has to go.

In the week of September 13, 2026 we cleared three of them. Two in Middletown on the same day, one in Smyrna. Here is how each went.

Two Middletown basements in one day

The first was in Thomas Cove. Unfinished basement, boxes stacked into the corner, bags around them. The homeowners had already packed up most of what was going, which speeds a job up more than people realize.

Everything came up the stairs by hand, one trip at a time, and the corner came back.

The second was in Bayberry South, for a repeat customer. This one ran the length of the basement wall rather than piling in one corner, which means more trips but a simpler carry.

The same basement cleared, with an open floor running along the concrete wall

Both basements were unfinished, and both came out through the stairs. No bulkhead, no shortcut. That is the normal case in Middletown, and it is worth knowing when you compare quotes, because stairs are labor and labor is most of what you are paying for.

A Smyrna basement near downtown

Smyrna's older homes near downtown have basements built a long time before anyone thought about getting a chair back up the steps. Lower ceilings, tighter turns, block walls.

We cleared it out and left the floor open. The water heater and the mechanicals stay exactly where they are. We work around them, never through them.

How a basement cleanout day actually works

  1. Free on-site estimate. We walk the basement with you, look at the stairs, and give you a flat price before anything moves.
  2. You point, we carry. Anything you want to keep, say so and we leave it. There is no pressure to clear more than you meant to.
  3. Everything goes up by hand. We protect the stair rail and the door frames on the way through.
  4. We sweep up. The floor gets left clear, not just emptied.
  5. We sort it after. Usable items go to local donation, metal gets recycled, and only what is left goes to the transfer station.

Most basements are a same-day job. A full, packed basement in an older home can run longer, and we will tell you that up front rather than halfway through.

What we cannot take

Paint, solvents, motor oil, propane tanks and asbestos have to go through household hazardous waste, not our trailer. If you are unsure about something in the corner, send a photo and we will tell you straight.

Prep that saves you money

You do not have to do anything before we come. But if you want the price lower, the Thomas Cove job is the model: boxing up what is going, and putting it in one area, cuts the time we are on the clock.
