You've got a showing tomorrow morning and the last tenant left half a living room behind. Or the new mattress is arriving at 2pm and the old one is still on the frame. Or your mother-in-law lands Friday and the guest room is currently a storage unit. Whatever the reason, you don't need junk gone eventually — you need it gone today.
Here's how same-day junk removal actually works in Delaware, straight from a crew that does it six days a week.
What "same-day" really means
Let's be honest with you up front, because a lot of junk haulers won't be: nobody can guarantee same-day service. Not us, not anybody. Any company promising a guaranteed same-day slot before they've looked at their route is telling you what you want to hear.
What we can tell you is that same-day is often available at Junk Away, and it depends entirely on how the day's schedule is shaping up when you call. Some days we've got a gap between a Newark job and a Dover job and your pile fits right in. Some days we're booked wall to wall and the honest answer is tomorrow morning.
The single biggest factor is when you call. Call at 7:30am and there's a real chance we work you in. Call at 4pm and we'll be straight with you about it.
Why a local Delaware crew can fit you in
Junk Away is family-owned and based in Middletown. Two brothers — Bobby and Brian — who grew up on a farm right here. Our trucks run across New Castle, Kent, and Sussex counties every day.
That matters more than it sounds. When a national chain takes your call, you're talking to a call center that routes your job through a dispatch system somewhere out of state. Adding a job to today's route is a whole process. When you call us, you're talking to people who know exactly where the truck is right now and whether there's room in the day.
Local means short drives between jobs. Short drives mean flexibility. That's the whole trick.
If you want to know more about who's showing up at your door, our story and what we stand for is on the site, and so are our customer reviews — 4.9 stars across 300-plus of them, and 2,600-plus jobs behind us.
How the process works, start to finish
No mystery here. It's five steps.
1. You call or text photos. Ring (302) 532-1186 or send us pictures of what's going. Photos help a lot — we can size up the load before we roll and give you a better sense of what to expect.
2. Free on-site estimate. We come out, look at the actual pile, and quote it. Free, no obligation, no pressure. If the number doesn't work for you, we shake hands and go. That happens sometimes and it's fine.
3. Flat quote, upfront. You get one number before any work starts. No hourly meter running. No surprise line items at the end. We don't publish pricing in blog posts because every job is different, but you can read exactly how our pricing works and what drives the number.
4. We load. You point. We carry. You don't lift anything, you don't move anything to the curb, you don't sweep up after. We get it out of the basement, the attic, the third-floor walkup — wherever it is.
5. We haul it away and sort it. Everything that can be donated or recycled gets routed that way instead of straight to a landfill. Metal, appliances, usable furniture. It's more work on our end and it's the right thing to do — more on our recycling and donation approach here.
What to have ready so we can move fast
If you're chasing a same-day slot, a little prep on your end buys us real time.
- Know what's going and what's staying. Sounds obvious. It's the number one thing that slows a job down. If it's ambiguous, put a sticky note on the stuff that stays.
- Clear the path. Move cars out of the driveway. Prop the gate. Unlock the basement door. If we're carrying a sectional through a hallway, clear the hallway.
- Sort out parking. In Wilmington rowhome blocks or tight Newark streets, tell us where the truck can sit. If a permit's involved, we should know before we're circling the block.
- Drain the hot tub. If we're pulling a spa, get it drained the night before. A full tub is a non-starter for a same-day pickup. Details on our hot tub removal service.
- Be reachable. Same-day means the schedule is moving. Keep your phone on you.
The same-day jobs we get most
Some jobs are practically built for same-day. These are the calls we can usually slot in:
- Single item pickups. One couch. One treadmill. One fridge. Fast in, fast out. See furniture and mattress removal and appliance removal.
- Rental turnovers. Tenant's gone, showing's tomorrow, the unit's full of what they didn't want. This is our bread and butter — tenant turnover services.
- Curbside piles. Everything's already outside. These are the quickest jobs we do.
- Post-move leftovers. The stuff that didn't make the truck. Boxes, a broken dresser, the mystery bin.
- Closing on a house. Walkthrough tomorrow, seller left the garage full. We do garage cleanouts and basement cleanouts constantly.
- Yard piles. Branches, brush, old deck boards — yard waste removal.

What we can't do same-day
Two categories, and we'd rather tell you now than waste your afternoon.
Hazardous materials — ever. Wet paint, gasoline, propane, asbestos, medical waste, ammunition. We're not licensed to haul any of it and we won't. Those need a proper hazardous waste facility. Dried-out paint cans are usually a different story — ask us.
Very large multi-day cleanouts. A full hoarding situation or a whole-estate clearout isn't a "squeeze it into the afternoon" job. Those need real planning — the right size crew, the right number of truckloads, sometimes multiple days. Call us and we'll get you on the calendar properly. Rushing a job like that serves nobody.
If you're unsure which bucket you're in, the FAQ covers a lot of it, or just call and ask.
Where we cover in Delaware
All of it. New Castle, Kent, and Sussex counties — the whole state.
We're out most days in Wilmington, Newark, Dover, Middletown, Bear, and Smyrna, plus everywhere in between and down to the beaches. Check the full list of Delaware service areas to find your town.
If you're searching "junk removal near me" from anywhere in Delaware, we're near you. That's the advantage of being based in Middletown — we're close to almost everything.
The best time to call
Morning. Every time.
We're open Monday through Friday 7am to 7pm, and Saturday 7am to 3pm. Closed Sunday. The earlier in the day you reach us, the more room there is in the schedule and the better your odds of getting hauled away the same day.
If you already know you need us Thursday, call Wednesday. A booked slot always beats hoping for a gap. But if it's 8am and you need it gone by dinner — call. There's a real chance we can make it happen.
